The team from North Barclay Green were among award recipients at the 2015 NAR-SAAH conference.
Representatives from Neighborhood Associates and the CT Group attended the 13th annual Resident Services and Resident Leaders Conference, held by the National Alliances of Resident Services in Affordable and Assisted Housing (NAR-SAAH). This gathering at the Grand Hyatt in Tampa, Florida, united housing commissioners, service providers, and residents to attend trainings, learn about new legislation and other issues surrounding housing, and network with one another.
The NAC/CT contingent participated in a panel entitled “Does It Pay in Housing to Hire Residents,” discussing the positives and challenges of employing residents as managers and service providers in their own communities. Panelists included NAC Executive Director Gloria Cousar, Velma Landers of Thomas Paine Apartments, Rodney Jones of Bradenton Village, Tarahn Harris of Homewood House, Caprice Casson of Bass Circle Apartments, and Cynthia Wiggins of Guste Homes.
The team from the North Barclay Green community center – Tarahn Harris, Lottie Sneed, Quincy Spruell, and Chris Wilson – received a award for excellence in Section 3 workforce development. Far exceeding the minimum goals set by HUD, their combined efforts have resulted in over 80 job opportunities through multiple job fairs, outreach, computer access, and one-on-one counseling, along with job placement support and follow-up to ensure hiring results. Congratulations to the North Barclay Green team for their work!
